Cigarette Design: the Holy Grail of Drug Delivery Systems

Channing Robertson
, Ruth G. and William K. Bowes Professor in the School of Engineering; Senior Associate Dean for Faculty & Academic Affairs for the School of Engineering
Department of Chemical Engineering
Stanford University
Stanford, CA 94305

Having been involved in the conceptualization and design of drug delivery devices for therapeutic pharmaceutics, Professor Robertson found himself embroiled in the tangled web of one of the largest lawsuits brought forth by a state against Big Tobacco. Robertson’s testimony in Minnesota v. Phillip Morris et al. during the Winter of 1998 assisted in bringing about a 6.7 billion dollar verdict against the tobacco industry. He provided compelling evidence that cigarettes were designed and manufactured with the sole intent of delivering dosage forms of nicotine to consumers. Indeed, they are the Holy Grail of drug delivery devices. Join us for his talk and find out why.
